June 27 - I made it downtown after work today to shoot for a couple hours. I spent some of my time on the roof of a big parking garage with great views of downtown and the roof tops as the sun was going down. It made for some great long shadows. I was surprised how easy it was for me to just walk in and go up the 9 flights of stairs to the top. No security cameras or locked doors.

June 26 - Paw#24 .This photo was taken on one of the main roads leading into the Smith Hill section of Providence. It leads to a street approriately named Smith Street which is where most of the action is and at the end of which stands the state capitol building.

I was planning on shooting today, but its been so hot the motivation just isnt there to leave the air conditioning right now. Maybe a little later because I want to test out a couple cameras that I just put new light seals in to see if the light leaks have been eliminated. Both my 5000e and Electro GT needed the seals changed. If they both are ok, I may sell the 5000e on ebay so stay tuned if interested.

June 22 - Here's a photo of mine used by J Hogue on the Art in Ruins website. It's the opening image used for the Splinters Bar profile.

June 20 - One more image from last week.

You may have come across this site before, but if not check out Hamburger eyes. They have links to some great work.

So Kodak is not gonna produce Black and White paper anymore? Big deal, Ive used Ilford for as long as I can remember and they dont have any plans on stoppng. Maybe I'll start supporting Ilford more and buy their b/w film as well. As much as I love TriX, I know a lot of people who like Ilford films as much. Of course they offer certain products for the digital users, but they are also COMMITTED to the analog world as well.......just checked out the different films on their website and I think I'll give the HP5 plus a try.

June 12 - I was looking at my Nikon FM2 the other day and discovered a roll of film still in the camera. I hadnt used it for maybe a year at least, so I developed the roll and found it had some images that I remembered taking, but thought I had lost. I have to admit it made my day.

Fox Point - Providence

June 11 - Paw #23. I was walking around the neighborhood when this guy caught me off guard. I managed to get into the darkroom today and have a few more photos to post tomorrow.

June 8 - Sorry about the lack of images so far this month. Ive just been busy with work and feel like Im going through one of those creative dry spells. Gonna do my best to get back into the swing of things by this weekend with some darkroom time and shooting.

Tip of the day: Dont ever leave your car accidentally unlocked after you go shopping. Someone might steal 7 pounds of meat and a big bag of brocolli and carrots right out of your back seat. The trunk was even popped open, but they either didnt see or didnt know what it was when they looked right at my bogen tripod. Only the meat was taken. Why did we buy 7 pounds of meat? We make our dog's food with meat brocolli, carrots and brown rice. He eats well!

Ive been reading some great reviews of this book this morning. I hadnt heard of it before. I think I'll hit the library to see if I can find a copy. This excerpt is kind of timely for me as Ive been thinking about trying to work on a project for the first time. Something that's been floating around in my head for a while, though I dont really want to discuss it yet as it seems like when I talk about doing something too much I end up not doing it.

An excerpt from the book On Being A Photographer, by David Hurn and Bill Jay.
One of the best ways to grow as a photographer is to take on a project of some type. Choose a subject, and produce a body of work to illustrate that subject.
Maybe the end result will be a portfolio or a gallery show, or maybe it'll end up as a small photo album or a web presentation. It doesn't matter. What matters is that you spend time with your chosen subject, get to know it, get past the cliche shots of it and really make photographs that reveal something new about your subject to other people.
Presented as a conversation between the two authors, this book excerpt is loaded with good advice about how to select a subject for your photographic project.
