11:40pm- Its interesting where you're name can show up sometimes. I've come across this website before, but didn't realize it is linked to me. Check out the Blogroll on the left. Not much else, I'm hoping to go out after work tomorrow and do some shooting.

10:10pm- I just posted a new Photo of the week as well as a photo in the New images gallery. Hope you enjoy. And yes, these are the first new prints created in the new darkroom.

9:50am- So today I finally get a day for my photography. On the to do list is 1) devlop film that's been piling up. 2.) While film is drying, go to Lowes and buy a couple things for the darkroom. 3) go out and do some shooting 4) Print! I took a few photos of the new darkroom, so if they come out ok, I'll post a couple photos on my site. I'll probably be printing tonight, so I'll post new work tommorow(Monday). That's assuming I have shot anything worthy of showing.

11pm- Just a few days left on the photos I've posted on Artbyus.com. Over 300 people have viewed the images, but no buyers. Maybe its because I'm not offering paypal, which makes buying easier. Maybe its more a matter of learning what type of images people would want to purchase. Maybe the type of work I like to do just doesn't appeal to those who might be out there looking to buy photos. Im thinking of just forgoing the selling on Artbyus.com and just keep shooting and posting photos and concentrate on photography. If someone sees something they like then they can email me anytime. I'll let these few photos finish up on Artbyus and then we'll see.

7:30am- Well, results are in. Turns out I was one of the final four contenders. Its all a matter of opinion, so hard to choose the "best". Interesting to read the comments about each photo. Salon results

7:30am- New Photo of the week. Also, I managed to get downtown after work yesterday and shoot for an hour or so. I love the light at that time of day. Long shadows and texture everywhere you look. I've got about 5 rolls of new images to process.

11:30pm-I just entered a photo in this contest that happens every other week. Its related to a Topica street photography listing where others interested in the street photography genre can converse. This weeks subject is Heat.

11:30pm- The darkroom is finished and ready for use, with a few minor things needed here and there. I'm pretty happy with how its turned out. The only drawback being no running water, but I would have had to pay to have the landlord to install plumbing. I already had to pay him for plumbing with the washing machine downstairs. But being the resourceful kind of person I like to think of myself as, I plan to figure out a way to use the water source and drain near the washing machine to wash prints. Since the darkroom is close to the washer this would be adequate for now. Being that its the 2nd darkroom I've built I'm getting a bit better at it. Maybe next time I'll be able to incorporate a sink. I'm going to take some photos(polaroids) and post them on my site soon to show you all what it looks like. I managed to use almost every scrap of wood from the last darkroom for this one, and this one is somewhat bigger and easier to move around in. OK, enough about building the thing, now do some printing already! New Photo of the Week

9:30am- Not much to report on today. I know my site has been kind of stagnant in terms of new photos, but that will change soon. It hard to find the time lately, but the darkroom is slowly coming along. It took me a couple hours last night just to build the table top for the enlarger. At first it was way too wobbly, so I had to rip it all down and start over. One beer later I started again and I think it turned out well. So that is done as well as the shelf to hold all my trays of chemicals. Next I need to find a spot for the drying racks and cover the ceiling with something. I'm doing this in a basement storage area so the ceiling isnt the best. You know, pipes, cobwebs, etc. I'm thinking that I'll hit Home Depot and get some plastic sheeting and stretch and staple it to the ceiling. That way no innocent spiders will fall in my fixer. For the floor, I've got those rubber mats that interlock. I just need to buy some more to cover the whole floor. That's about it for now gotta get ready for a picnic today. Stacey and a few of her friends are having 30th birthdays this summer, so they are having this picnic for each other.

6:10pm- New photo added today. I took this last winter downtown. Its an image shot through the front window of a comedy club. I like the reflections of the buildings in the glass, something I didnt see untill I looked at the negative. You can also make out the heads of some of the people in the club. Photographed hand held with TriX Pushed to 1000 and the Electro set at f1.7, no movement on my part is visible in the photo. And as I recall it was a very cold night and I'm sure i was shivering a bit. At the time I thought he saw me and was waving to me, but he promptly left the stage and I figured he was saying goodbye to his audience. Thanks for looking. Now I'm off to work on the darkroom for a little while.

6:15pm- The new scanner has arrived and it works! So hopefully I can get some new images posted soon. The room for the darkroom is built and I plan to get it ready for printing this weekend. On the subject of darkrooms, there has been a petition going around about a well known school in New York City that seemingly is ready to eliminate its traditional darkrooms in favor of digital photography. Why cant these two co-exist? It doesnt need to be one or the other. By losing the darkroom experience, we would be losing a big part of what makes photography so special. Not to mention a large part of the history of photography. This particular darkroom has been used by such famous photographers as Diane Arbus, Lisette Modell, and Bernice Abbott, among others. Here is the link to the petition if you'd like to help stop this. http://www.PetitionOnline.com/Darkroom/petition.html

11am- Instead of taking our scanner to the repair place, I called Canon and it's still under warranty for another month. So they are sending us a replacement scanner(same model) and we just send this one back to them. Should be here tues. or wednesday, hope it works! Yesterday there was an italian festival on Federal Hill, so we went over to get some food and check out the scene. I did some shooting there and around downtown, so I've got some film to develop finally. I feel good about what I shot yesterday, so now I've got the bug to go out and do some more today. Although I do need to get this darkroom built. I've been meeting some of the neighbors here. Its much different than our old street that was filled with college kids. A lot of families here and kids playing in the street. Some great photo opportunities right ouside my front door. I was talking to the man next door who is from Peru and his wife is from Columbia. He always seems to be painting his front steps or doing some kind of home improvements. My only issue with him was his Yankee hat. When I told him I was a Red Sox fan, he said he only liked the Yankee logo but didnt know much about baseball. Not sure I believed that one. Anyway, I won't hold it against him.

Just in case you haven't checked out my links page and seen this photographer's work yet. Here is his latest set of images. I dont think he'd mind me doing this as we've linked our sites to one another. I just think he is one of the best out there doing street photography. Ralph Ballerstadt , if you have the time go to his index and enjoy some more great work!

6pm- This has been a busy and stressful week. Little stupid things like getting our mail forwarded here from the old place, Getting the landlord to install our washer dryer, fix the stove, etc, etc. Now our scanner in on the fritz so tomm. morning we have to bring it for repair and see what the deal is there. I managed to do a little shooting, but.... I'm hoping Sunday will be a day to shoot some more and get the darkroom going finally. Never a dull moment! No bids yet on my auctions, but here's hoping.

6/2/04

7:30am- Gotta get going to work. My goal today is to shoot one roll of film. Have to get back into the swing of things shooting wise. I started the darkroom, but its got a ways to go yet. I made a few changes to the home page, need to work on navigation around the site and add titles of some kind to the images. This is a work in progress to be sure. I might even change the partial thumbnail design, have had some feedback that it makes things confusing to navigate. Any opinions would be helpful.
