February 05

2/27/05 1:10pm - - - PAW #9

Below is a photo I took during our last snowstorm. It was still coming down pretty hard, yet this guy was out there getting a head start on the shovelling. camera : Yashica Lynx 14 / Film : TriX

2/26/05 9am - - - Its been a little while since Ive written here, kinda a busy week. Im doing a little more work on Staceys website and I really havent had too much time for shooting. I cant wait for the warmer weather and longer days when I can get downtown after work to shoot. I do have a roll of TriX to develop today, and tommorrow I'll get into the darkroom.

2/21/05 2pm - - - PAW #8.

One more from hanging out in New York last weekend.

lounging in the village

2/20/05 10:50am - - - NY Subway. Here's one image from NY last weekend. Ive got tomorrow off from work so I'll be hitting the darkroom in the morning to print some more of these. Hopefully there will be a new Photo of the week for you tomorrow.

2/19/05 9:30am - - - Whenever I check out the recently added photoblogs on Photoblogs.org I usually lose interest fairly quickly with most of the photos. Here's one that I found yesterday that stopped me in my tracks. Ed Leveckis.
Also, I noticed in my stats that 44% of my site's visitors are using this resolution on their computers : 1024 X 768. Where as Ive still been using 800 X 600. So Ive made some changes to the home page, so now when a larger screen size is used my page is centered on the screen and expands a little to fit better. I'll probably keep playing with it and making changes but I think it looks better. Only about 22% of visitors are using the 800 X 600 resolution now. At some point I'll do a revamping of my whole website, but...
Oh yeah, our new neg scanner has arrived and its sitting here next to me taunting me and whispering in my ear, "darkroom? You dont need no stinkin' darkroom!" I will resist, this is strictly for Stacey's business! help....

2/15/05 6pm - - - Home from NY and we had a great time. Lots of walking and eating involved. I did get to do a little street shooting as we walked through Times Square, East village and everywhere else. One thing I noticed is that it seemed easier for me to lift my camera to my eye and photograph people. Maybe it was just the adrenaline kicking in, but it felt like the people there were way too involved in what they were doing or where they going to even notice me. So I'll develop my film and see if I got anything worthwhile.
So I've decided to try and learn more about HTML and so right now Im writing this entry directly into my code instead of on my actual page in Dreamweaver. If you see some weird things happening on my website(not that you havent already) its because Im experimenting with this stuff. For instance, Im about to create a link to a website Ive been using as a tutorial with out using the magic of Dreamweaver. Stand by.....w3schools.com Ok, that worked. I think it will be better learning this way instead of just relying on Dreamweaver to program everything automatically.
I'll post some New York photos as soon as I can.

2/11/05 9:25pm - - - PAW # 7 for 2005. This one is a couple days early because Stacey and I are headed to NYC for the weekend. Its been a while since we've been there so it'll be fun. We're Staying with a good friend in Brooklyn and Im definately bringing a camera with me. The plan? I guess were gonna hit a bunch of galleries and local bars and try to take a tour of the Brooklyn Beer brewery. Doesnt get any better than that.

So I thought I was finished with Stacey's website, but I bought a book called HTML by Liz Castro and found out that I still have some work to do in the code. Dreamweaver is great to use but Ive been learning more about the code itself and not just letting this program do most of the work. Its a great book actually and Ive learned a lot. Staceys web site has been steadily climbing in the search engine ratings and she's been getting a good amount of hits and requests for info. I think she has 4 or 5 meetings set up for next week with perspective clients. Also, the wedding planner has a client that wants to meet her in Boston, they sound really interested.

Other than that, Im still enjoying our Patriots Superbowl win and looking forward to the Red Sox starting spring training.

2/11/05 7:30am - - - An image printed last weekend, but shot last year.
Camera: Yashica GSN Electro W/ Tri X.

2/6/05 10:30am - - - PAW #6 This image gives you a really good idea of the feeling of some of the alleys in downtown Providence. Almost looks like somewhere in Europe and it sort of feels that way walking through here.I found this image last night as I was going back through my old negs. Funny what you can miss the first time around.

Here's another print I made last night. This is the street I live on which is filled with these giant 3 story houses-very typical of the neighborhood. I think at the time I was coming home from a day of shooting and just wanted to finish a roll of film so this is the very last frame. I like it, it might be interesting to do a series of these photos. Also, around here people dont really have front lawns, so some make do with the tiny plot of land they do have. Here you can see this person just has a huge ugly bush filling the space, others have religious sculptures or tiny flower gardens. Im getting an idea for a series of images.

2/5/05

10:20pm - - - Two new addition to my links for you to check out. Found pictures by filmmaker and photographer Matt Boyd, and fellow photo a week shooter Nils Vermaning from The Netherlands. Both are film shooters of course!

I Just finished another good printing session tonight. I went back through some old negatives looking for shots I missed the first time around. This is something I really havent done before so it was cool finding some new/old shots to print. I'll post some new stuff tommorrow am once the prints are dry. Along with a new photo a week image of course.

Also, a lot of people coming to my site dont seem to be checking out my journal for some reason. I know Im not the most interesting writer ever, so sometimes I feel like Im wasting my time with it. Im sure I'll keep it going at least for now. Whatever, gotta go wash my prints....

6pm- - - Thought I'd try something new so I've added a services page for website design and black and white printing.

9:30am- - - Heres my submission to this week's photo friday.- distortion

2/3/05 8:20pm - - - So I was thinking about reorganizing my galleries and editing out some stuff tonight, but when I got into it I realized its a bigger job than I am willing to tackle right now. So they will stay as is for now, maybe one of these days it'll happen. I think I need to rethink how I organize my photos in my files because I kinda made it difficult to change stuff around. Or maybe Im just too tired right now for my brain to function properly.-that's probably it. I ditched the guestbook idea, seems silly to me now.-and not many people have used it compared to how many people have been to my site. I think Im really done with Staceys website for a while. She has several leads and now has 2 wedding planners out there reccomending her to clients. Kinda like having a rep pounding the pavement for you. She already has 14 weddings booked for this season and with all the leads its looking like she may surpass 20 weddings in all. At least that's what I think.

Here's a website that will give you some interesting insight into stuff about Providence, including the Art scene, Urban development, Urban Decay, Architecture and more. Here's one of my favorite pages that shows you some historical photos of the city,ArtInRuins. Ive actually thought about contacting them to see if I could volunter myself to photograph parts of the city. I think it would be cool to do. Here are a few samples of images Ive done that I think are similar to stuff they use.

2/1/05 8:20pm - - - I was bored at work today so I did a search in google for "my darkroom" since I always like seeing how other photographers work. Here is one that is impressive. If youve ever been to the Unblinking Eye website you may be familiar with this but I hadnt come across Ed Buffaloe's darkroom before. Here it is. Oh and try that google search if you want to see some different darkrooms.

Right now its actually 10:40pm Jan. 31st, so Im cheating a little and starting February early. Anyway, Stacey got 5 new leads today for weddings and finalized one definate booking. A lot of people that call or email her mention her website and how much they enjoyed it so that makes me feel good. All the hard work seems to be paying off. I finished the changes to her faq page, so now all that is really left is to play around with are the keywords and try to get the search engines to pick her up more, which they already have started to do. I need to start making more of an effort to shoot more during the week, especially now that the majority of Stacey's website work is finished. Though really it'll never be finished, which is cool because I do enjoy the challenge. Thats about it, Im looking forward to another Superbowl victory this Sunday. It never gets old, especially with all the years and years of godawful teams New England has had to endure to get to this point.
