Dec 31, 2005

I was in Borders bookstore looking at Camera Arts magazine and discovered an artcle written by the son of a man who lived and photographed in New York.

"A brilliantly insightful photographer, Robert Otter left his artistic aspirations behind to focus his energies on providing the best life possible for our family."

You have to respect that, here is the website created by his son. Photographs by Robert Otter

It was nce having the long weekend and Im looking forward to another one this weekend. Im trying to find some time to try out the Bessa R that Stacey bought for me for the holiday. I brought it with me to work today, but never took the lens cap off. I know I was all set to start with the Fed2 I bought, but after looking through the viewfinder of the Bessa I have to say there is no comparison. The best thing is that I know the Bessa will work when I pick it up to shoot as opposed to some of the cameras Ive used over the years. No offense to the line of Yashicas Ive grown to enjoy using.

I picked up a Jupiter 8 from Fedka yesterday. Its a 50mm lens for the Fed 2 that has a pretty good reputation and Fedka in New York is very reliable for buying this stuff. I think next up will be a light meter(I didnt win the Gossen Pilot I was going for). Oh yeah I am looking for an EL-Nikkor 50mm 2.8 enlarger lens for the Omega B22 enlarger. They go for about $50 used are are supposed to be really good, so Ive read. These Russian cameras can be really addictive, I just wanna find a combination of lens and camera that work well.

Here is my new aquisition, a Fed 2e direct from the Ukraine. Here is a great website that will tell you all you would want to know about the Fed cameras. These dont have a built in meter of course so Im currently bidding on a Gossen Super Pilot lightmeter on ebay. Its really small and will easily slip into my pocket, and right now the price is just $1.35!

It comes with this industar-26 lens which is a 50mm. Id like to find a Jupiter 12 lens wihich is a 35mm and requires a separate finder. None of which is terribly expensive so this could be the way for me to go for a while with cameras. The good thing about these lenses is that they will work on a Bessa, which I think is in my future.

Since stoppinig my photo a week my shooting has come to a screeching halt. I just bought myself a Fed 2 hoping to jump start myself and I may bring back photo of the week in January. Tonight I added a new link to Andrew Stark's site and then bought myself his book "Candidly Inclined".
